Thanksgiving Traditions

I wanted to write about a tradition that my family does for Thanksgiving every year. Whether we go to my mom and dad's for Thanksgiving, or go to Grandma Fautin's and Grandma Susie's house, we always offer to bring the "Cheesy Onions." This is something that Jeremy says they had for Thanksgiving for as long as he can remember. We've been taking them to dinner, Jeremy and I, as long as we've been married. It's just what we do now. We love them. The guys (and some of the girls) usually have a contest to see who can eat the most, leaving the empty green onion stems laying by their plate as proof. What you do is take green onions, cut the end with the roots off just a bit, rinse and dry them really good (so the cheese will stick), and then put a ball of cream cheese down on the end and roll that ball of cream cheese in shredded cheddar cheese. Most of the kids just suck the cream cheese ball off, but the adults usually will bite into the onion. We got to the point where we would just start making cream cheese balls rolled in cheddar for the kids to eat so they wouldn't waste the onions. My kids like to be in on helping to make them. Jeremy is usually in charge of putting them together.
